Like listening to tales of terror? Prefer to listen tucked up in bed, in the dark, with the blankets pulled up over your head? Oh, just me then. Well, anyway, over at the excellent Nightmare Magazine they have some great podcasts of stories by top writers in the horror, fantasy and sf fields. Among the authors currently featured are Ramsey Campbell and Joe Haldeman (whose 'Vietnam in space' novel The Forever War is a true classic of the genre).

Speaking of Forever War,Have you read Joe's Forever Peace? Pretty amazing book and IMHO the basis of Avatar.

Yes, I have read it. I take your point - though I think Avatar is so unoriginal it could claim descent from rather a lot of sf novels!

Ron Weighell's 'The Chapel of Infernal Devotion' is not just an erudite horror story but an extended essay on Machen's cultural significance. I had never heard of B(rian) Catling when I received a review copy of this book , which comes with three intriguing postcards  'featuring photographs by Iain Sinclair and text by Alan Moore' .
